interstitial

An ongoing series of site specific dance installations during the changeovers between art exhibitions at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. Centered around the duet dance making practice of Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon and their collaborations with musicians, visual artists, and other performers. Interstitial falls in the margins, between categories, genre, and discipline.

Interstitial 4 will happen in May 2022.

Interstitial 3 was a series of open dance rehearsals conducted by Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon with Triad area dancers: Maddy Bailey, Dawanna Benjamin, Faith Fidgeon, Ciara Loscombe, Kendall Ramirez, Caitlyn Schrader, and Maurice Watson.

Interstitial 3 also featured EVERYWHERE'S INSIDE-OUTSIDE (a zoom dance video booth) created in collaboration with Steve Morrison. This interactive exhibit invited visitors to virtually dance with strangers in other people’s spaces—a public, abstract improvisation to address our isolation even as we transition out of quarantine, and a lens through which to reflect on this moment in the world.

Generously funded by SECCA and the Interdisciplinary Arts Center of Wake Forest University.
